CanCam — 'We Overcame Our Limits Together' Interview (Seonghwa)
A Q&A interview with Seonghwa published by CanCam to mark ATEEZ's Japan 2nd single "Limitless" and their "ANCHOR IN JAPAN" encore concerts. Published March 24, 2023.
Seonghwa's Words — English Translation
Q: Please tell us the highlights and points to pay attention to in new single "Limitless," which also became a topic of conversation as the opening theme for the TV anime "Duel Masters WIN"! A: "Right before the bridge, there's San's part where all the instrumentation drops out and only San's voice comes through — I really think that's the killing part!"
Q: What's something you could eat endlessly? A: "Abura soba. It's my absolute favorite food."
Q: If you had infinite time right now, what would you want to do? A: "I'd want to meet more ATINY, communicate with them, and build up precious memories together."
Q: Has there been a moment when you thought, "I've surpassed my limits! I've broken through them!"? A: "At concerts, when I hear ATINY's cheers and see their eyes, a strength I don't even understand myself wells up in me. At times like that, I somehow feel like 'I overcame my limits together with ATINY,' and it makes me happy!"
Q: When you hit your limits or go through hard times, is there a "magic phrase" you tell yourself? A: "I often put myself under the spell of the words: 'You are the best person for someone, and you must become the best for those people. I want to run toward an exclamation point, not a period.'"
Q: All of you in ATEEZ are amazing for maintaining such high stage quality, singing live even on songs with intense choreography. What do you keep in mind when performing hard, demanding songs? A: "While performing, there are times I exceed my own limits without even realizing it. At times like that, I focus on adjusting my condition well before I even step on stage, so that I can perform safely without getting injured."
Q: Last December, you held your second solo concert in Japan, drawing about 30,000 attendees. There were also some first-time attempts like the trolley staging. Could you tell us your thoughts on that show again? And what would you like to try in Japan going forward? A: "I feel like it was a truly special experience. I was able to greet even the fans seated far in the back of the venue, and they seemed happy about it, which made us happy too! Going forward, I'd like to keep trying stage productions that let us communicate with even more fans."
Q: Looking back on 2022, which member would you give the "Worked Hardest Award" to? And who's your "No. 1 Most Anticipated" member for 2023? A: "The 'Worked Hardest Award' goes to every single member. Without exception, each of us did our best in our own position and worked really hard! For the No. 1 Most Anticipated member, I'll choose myself. I want to expect a lot from myself and be even more useful to the group."
Q: What's something you've recently found "cute"? A: "I've been playing a game called 'Animal Crossing: New Horizons,' and there's a character named Yukimi who's really cute. I want her to stay in my town with me forever!"
Q: When Japanese ATINY visit Korea, please recommend a Korean dish you'd really want them to try! A: "Samgyeopsal! I think what makes it special is grilling it right in front of you at a samgyeopsal restaurant and eating it together with lots of side dishes, so that's what I'd recommend."
Q: Finally, please give a message to Japanese ATINY! A: "I want to say thank you to ATINY for always giving us so much support, and to ask you to keep looking forward to what's next. Strengthened by all of your love, we'll show you an ATEEZ that keeps working hard!"
